Author: Robert Kiyosaki

This is one of the must read book we should read. It teaches about financial literacy. Though most of us earn, mostly we were never taught about finance and managing our financing it.  Earning is just 40%. We need to think how to wisely put/spend/save the money we earn. This is the toughest part.  It requires learning and looking for opportunities.
One simple example: If we would have invested Rs. 10000 in 1980 in WIPRO company, now the value is around 300 crores approximately.  Looks interesting right?  So gain Financial Literacy. Its basic necessity and no longer optional.  so learn and earn!  This book could show you some light.  You can explore more after this.
Some Highlights from this book.
Lesson 1: The Rich Don’t Work For Money
Lesson 2: Why Teach Financial Literacy?
Lesson 3: Mind Your Own Business
Lesson 4: The History of Taxes and the Power of Corporations
Lesson 5: The Rich Invent Money

THE 7 HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE PEOPLE

This book also one of the must read books.

For me this is one of the toughest book to read from beginning to end. This books requires your quality time, your own analysis and discussion with friends etc.  It demands all things from us.  But the result is a fruitful one.  It changes our perception with which we see this world daily.  It changes our thinking. It adds new things to our views/understanding and whatsoever you call.

One simple concept which we know daily but hardly think of:

  • DEPENDENT - Initially as a human being, when we are born, we are 100% dependent on   others even for our very basic activities.
  • INDEPENDENT - As we grow year by year, we keep developing our independence, slowly and steadily and at one point of time, we believe that we are almost 100% Independent
  • INTER-DEPENDENT - Although we are independent, we need to understand that this world functions as inter dependent unit.  We are all dependent on each other including humans, trees, insects etc.

Like this there are so many concepts presented with good clarity and triggers questions in our mind. This book makes us to think.

As A Man Thinketh

"As a man thinketh" by James Allen

(Note: This book is applicable to all human beings Man/Women/Transgender)

This is one of the best book, I have ever read. I love this book so much.  Its a very small book which we can finish reading in couple of hours.  But the teachings are for our life time. I keep reading this book as I am still struggling to follow the things which is mentioned in this book. I wish I internalize the concepts so that i don't need this book one day.

I really suggest to buy this book and have your own hard copy of this book.  It's really such a simple and wonderful book.

WHY?....WHY NOT?...HOW?...WHAT?

WHY DID WE READ?

  • Because our parents put us in school, we would have started reading our school books.  Can we think of any moments when we started reading books other than our regular school books. It may be like the children magazine or story books or drawing etc.
  • In case if we would have read books other than school books, it could be because of our interest or just a time pass as there is nothing to do.
  • Some other reasons.....
WHY SHOULD WE READ NOW?
To become a Better Human Being everyday.  Ignoring the human inside us and reading all the books in this world is of no use. We should become better Human Being day by day. If, after getting good education, job and wealth, I am not becoming a better human being (not just by body alone) day by day, then I prefer death than living in this world.

HOW TO DEVELOP THE READING HABIT?

  1. Try reading a small article daily say for 10 to mins initially. It may be from a Daily Newspaper or weekly magazine etc. Then after a week try for little more time and keep increasing your as you become love of reading
  2. Always have a book/e-book with you whenever possible. You may get some wait time somewhere so that you can make use of it.
  3. Find your interest. Read about that initially so that you will get to the habit of reading.
HOW TO READ THE BOOKS?

  • It first depends on two things.  IMPORTANT and PRIORITY.
  • Is it IMPORTANT for me to read this book? Well you may answer YES
  • But is it your Highest Priority to read this book now? Think.
  • It depends on the books as well as who reads it. Take for example, a weekly magazine.  I may skim through Cine news (No need for me analyze) but I may read Political News (I may analyze it to understand how current environment). There is an article about time management.  Surely there could be at least one useful point which I could take from the article and try to implement it in my real life
HOW TO CHOOSE THE BOOKS?

  1. If we are new to something, we may not know which book to pickup as there are so many available.
  2. We can do two things.
    1. If any of our friends have the habit of reading, talk to him to find his/her suggestions.
    2. You may visit bookshop which allows you skim through the books so that you can choose what you like.
    3. You can visit Book sites like Amazon to find the rating given by other readers
WHAT IS THE END?

Frankly there is NO END.  As we read more and understand, we understand that there is more that we don't know.  We cannot master all things in the world but we can keep improving ourself as a human being and master (No one is a master. We have to keep improving. If we think we are the master, our learning stops there itself and our arrogance starts....) the things which are essential for our day to day living and also useful for the society.

Few Quotes:

உள்ளத் தனையது  உயர்வு.
Translation :
With rising flood the rising lotus flower its stem unwinds;
The dignity of men is measured by their minds.

The stalks of water-flowers are proportionate to the depth of water; so is men's greatness proportionate to their minds.

Translation by Rev. Dr. G. U. Pope, Rev W. H. Drew,Rev. John Lazarus and Mr F. W. Ellis

"We are responsible for what we are, and whatever we wish ourselves to be, we have the power to make ourselves.  If what we are now has been the result of our own past actions, it certainly follows that whatever we wish to be in future can be produced by our present actions; so we have to know how to act.----------------Swami Vivekananda"
